Figure Sculpture

  • Art League School Madison Street Annex 305 Madison Street Alexandria, VA 22314 United States (map)

Taught in person at the Art League School in historic Old Town Alexandria, VA. Join me for a weekend of sculpting the human figure in the round.

This workshop is an introduction to the concepts and techniques of sculpting the human form in clay in an efficient and expressive manner. We will develop the basic skills of clay modeling and figure assemblage within a two-day period, working on a single pose from beginning to end. We will be working from a live model in order to perfect understanding of proportion, symmetry, and form.

Through study of the structure of the human body, this workshop will enable you to capture the essence of the human figure and provide the confidence to express yourself within the figurative tradition. You will develop the skills of seeing, perceiving and reproducing the human form in all its complexities.

This class is great not only for sculptors, but also for those experienced in drawing, painting and 3D animation. Beginning sculptors are very welcome as are more experienced sculptors who want to have a deeper understanding of figurative art: the instructor provides individual attention within the context of a supportive class environment.
